Golf balls, the basic necessity to play golf. And because every golfer uses dozens of balls every year they are always needed and make for a great gift. I have watched many people stare at golf balls and end up making a terrible choice in buying some Nitros for their Dad/husband. Don't buy him Nitros.
There are many different types of golf ball manufactures and models for each manufacturer that come at different price points, think of it like a car. One way to make sure you get the right ball is by sneaking into his golf bag and seeing what he already has and go find those balls. If you do this make sure you look at the side of the ball as that will show the model name and that is important.
If you don't know what brand/model he plays, don't worry. In a recent Instagram survey I posted, an overwhelming percentage of people said they prefer to play multiple kinds of balls vs. one. Golf balls can be expensive, so you might not be willing to spend $50 on something you don't even know he likes. So the Golf DSM recommendation is to buy something in the middle price point, $25-$35.
Below are four of the more popular brands and models. The Bridgestone B330 RX ball is a prior year version of the ball and comes at a discount because of that. If you prefer to get the 2018 version you can do that for a little more cost. This Titleist Tour Soft ball is brand new to the market in 2018, a good chance this is ball your Dad/husband hasn't got to try out yet. This specific Callaway Chrome Soft ball is their truvis version and the design looks like a soccer ball. Again this is an older model, but the 2018 version comes with a decent sized price hike as well. This design does not appeal to some golfers, all depends on how trendy vs. traditional they are. And lastly is the TaylorMade Project (a), another popular ball that would appeal to most golfers.
Golf Balls on a Budget
As I said, golf balls are expensive. Even in the mid-price point. But have no fear, there are some decent options available if you are working with a small budget for Father's Day.
Rock Bottom Golf is a great online golf store for finding many well priced golf products, including golf balls. One option is to get a "sleeve" of golf balls. One sleeve contains only 3 balls compared to the usual 12 in a box. But that also means a much a lower price for high quality balls. The Bridgestone Tour B RX or Titleist ProV1 are good options to bring a smile to Dad's face and only $11.99 for a sleeve.
Another choice is the Wilson Staff Duo. Most Wilson Staff balls are on the cheaper side of things, but the Duo version has been well received by many and a great deal in the golf ball market.
