It should be noted that this list is just for Public Courses that are within 20 miles of downtown Des Moines.
No boring holes found at Waveland with the rolling hills the course sits on. A common comment from out-of-staters about Waveland is that it is the best conditioned course for the green fees cost. Lack of a driving range is the one setback.
The Par 3 8th at Waveland Golf Course displays the elevation changes found throughout the course.
The golf course has long been great, and with a few renovated holes and clubhouse, Jester Park is always a good golf option. But the extras are what really boost Jester Park as a great overall facility. Large practice area (though location isn't great), a nice Par 3 course, new mini golf course and a membership that includes access to the Des Moines city courses.
Scenic views everywhere at Iowa's only Arnold Palmer Signature Course. Great conditions on a challenging layout matched with a great practice area, clubhouse and staff. Considering the quality level of the course the $50 - $65 greens fee (cart and range included) is a pretty good deal.
