Each year as the golf ball manufacturers release new versions of their ball models, they discount the renaming inventory from the prior year. Since that inventory is limited, they are usually gone by early in the golf season.
Based out of the Twin Cities, Parway Golf is a new player in the golf apparel and accessories market. Even though products have only been available since January 2019, it doesn't take long to see that Parway Golf has a bright future. Parway founder Patrick Carder has already brought several unique aspects to the brand to separate it from the typical golf apparel start-up company, such as creating a partnership with the Minnesota PGA and offering full golf outfits (polo, shorts, hat, belt & socks) to simplify your shopping experience and save money.
Sioux Falls is a short four hour drive northwest from the Des Moines metro. The Sioux Falls area has roughly 200,000 people, sits on the Missouri River and is the lone larger metro area in the Iowa/South Dakota/Minnesota tri-state area. But don't sleep on this area as a place that lacks great golf. Iowa's #4 public course (via Golf.com) is The Falls at Grand Casino in Larchwood as well as some of the top courses in South Dakota.
As we head towards the end of May, one of my favorite times of the year is approaching. The Principal Charity Classic. The annual event featuring the best players on the PGA Tour Champions is just around the corner and here is your quick guide to getting the most out of the tournament.
For many golfers across the Des Moines metro and beyond, it is hard to justify a golf membership. For some it is the cost and others it is not having enough time to golf as much as you need to make the membership worth it. But as golf courses look to evolve to keep rounds played up, new types of memberships at public courses are showing up at greatly reduced cost to entice golfers to call that course home.
Each year new and/or improved golf brands, golf gadgets and golf accessories hit the market. There are many options to help you improve on the course and look good doing it, if you are looking for some new golf toys you have come to the right spot. Here are the Golf DSM must haves for 2019.
Having been a public course golfer most of my life (had a JR membership at the local country club in high school), I am always pretty excited when I get to play a private course. The quality of the course, the service, the exclusivity and the lack of 4-somes backed up for miles to see are all part of the experience that goes with playing at a private course. And if you don't get to do that often it is a nice change from your regular Saturday morning tee time. But getting the opportunity to play a private course can be a challenge, but there are more ways to accomplish this than you might realize.
A new event in town will help Des Moines golfers fight the winter golf blues. The Des Moines Golf Expo will be taking over the Iowa Events Center January 4-6 as Central Iowa golfers will descend to downtown Des Moines for some golf shopping, golf trip planning, golf lessons and just good fun. To get a better idea on what to expect at the Des Moines Golf Expo, we decided to talk to those involved with the event to learn more.

Golf fashion has had an interesting history. Once a game that was played in a person's fanciest clothes, it slowly morphed into a gathering of people in business casual attire that included horrid shirt patterns and stripes that lacked fit and was paired with pleated pants that were equally baggy. Thankfully things improved. New materials were used allowing for better fit, while still comfortable and allowing you to move without restriction. Golf shirt colors and designs also slowly started to become more vibrant and expressive and suddenly what the pros were wearing was as much of a story as what they were swinging.
This evolution has continued and have allowed new apparel startups to enter the golf scene with their own flavor, such as the new upstart Waggle Golf.
